Specimen Rotation Device

The specimen rotation device was created in order to help researchers at UVA do material science research.  The specimens are examined on incredibly small scales, lending itself well to a mechatronics system to rotate the specimen with exact precision.

This was done with an Arduino as the microcontroller and a stepper motor.  The specimen gets placed in between two 3D printed pieces, holding it in place.  Then, when a button is pressed, the specimen gets rotated a very precise number of degrees by a stepper motor.  This allows the researchers to measure the specimen with amazing precision.
